The online counter on HayFun is only semi-live. On page load, the frontend makes a single call to api.hay.fun/api/AppInfo/server and takes the online_number from the response. After that it never asks the backend again; every 3 seconds a client-side timer randomly adds 1–50 or subtracts 1–30 to make the number look like it's moving, so the visible fluctuation is fake. - A high share of matches were real people, and matches connect fast.
